• Double-line with foil: Overlap two pieces in a “+” pattern for fast cleanup.
• Extend coverage: Foil up and out over the pan’s rim, if needed.
• Reuseable: Proper foiling will greatly extend the pan’s useful life.
• Placement: Set directly on the deflector stone, or elevate with CGS Spacers.

Pro Tip: Elevate When Possible

CGS Ceramic Spacers create an air gap between the deflector and drip pan. This gap reduces the amount of heat passing from deflector to pan, which helps minimize burnt pan drippings and the off-smells they can create.

Concerns with Aluminum

• Melting Point: Aluminum melts at around 1200°F — a temperature that can be reached in a kamado if left unchecked.
• Leaching Risk: Acidic foods or high temps above 400°F can cause small amounts of aluminum to leach. This is a good reason to elevate the pan above the hot deflector when possible.
• Foiling a Deflector:
  • Minimize foiling the deflector’s bottom side.
  • Keep foil loose on top and along the edges.
  • Avoid excessive cracks and crinkles — they can leak.
  • Use a double layer of foil for better protection.
